oysters by meshell ndegeocello
from her new album ‘weather.’ it’s a nice record. warm, intimate, nocturnal, mature, ethereal soul with some surprisingly rambunctious bass grooves. it plays well front to back, save for a bit of a dip in the 3rd quarter, right around the cover of leonard cohen’s ‘chelsea hotel.’ the hushed atmosphere reminds me of the newest kate bush album, ‘50 words for snow.’ and, like bush’s music, this is innovative and strange but very adult music.
